Businesses Help to Light up Sensory Room

Bromley Business Network donates £340 to launch a fundraising campaign to raise £5,000 for a sensory room for adults with learning disabilities

Charity Diagrama, who run Cabrini House in Orpington, home to twenty-three adults with learning disabilities and a range of complex sensory needs, is fundraising to create a magical and engaging sensory experience for their residents.

The team at Cabrini House has been looking at ways to help keep life interesting as the usual community activities that the residents rely on are not available because they are self-isolating.  To create a better environment two rooms, have already been converted into a Montessori learning room and a gym, but the residents need somewhere to go when things get a bit overwhelming at home.

David McGuire, Chief Executive, Diagrama, said, “A sensory room will help make the lives of our residents much easier, by giving them a space they can use, if life overwhelms or frustrates them. We hope to convert an office space into a wonderful sensory room, but we need to raise £5,000 to do this. The Bromley Business Network has supported Cabrini house for some time, and we are delighted that their generous donation will help towards making the Sensory Room a reality.”

Chas Jordan, Bromley Business Network, said, “The Bromley Business network selected Cabrini House as its chosen charity when we launched in October 2019. It is a fabulous charity to support and I am always so impressed with what I see when I visit.  I am delighted that our members have also taken the charity to heart and fundraise independently as well as contributing to our requests for donations. The networking group raised £280 to kick start this project and one of our members added another £60 through their own fundraising activity.”
