Happy Retirement For Rescue Pony

A rescued ex polo pony will enjoy her retirement in 100 acres of outstanding natural beauty at a care home for adults with learning disabilities.

Care provider Diagrama Foundation, the charity which runs Duckyls Farm near East Grinstead has welcomed Morocha a 22 year old Argentinian Thoroughbred ex polo pony, as a companion for their horse Alfie, who recently lost his best friend Ace.

Morocha came to the 100 acre Duckyls Farm from the Blue Acre Horse Rescue charity in Windsor. Morocha had a career playing Polo and had been with the rescue charity for four years. She has already become a huge hit with the care home residents, who have learning disabilities and the service users attending the newly opened Day Opportunities provision which Diagrama operates to support people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairment and acquired brain injury.

Keri Strugnell, Care Farm and Community Manager, Diagrama Foundation said, “The name Morocha means ‘dark haired’ and as a dark bay, the name fits her perfectly. Her arrival was somewhat bittersweet, especially for me, as she has replaced our horse Ace who died recently.  Horses, being herd animals, need to be with their own kind so I had to find a companion for Alfie.  Morocha is a beautiful 22 year old retired polo pony. Although they are called ponies, they are in fact horses and she’s a 15.3hh Argentinian Thoroughbred. She will have a wonderful retirement enjoying life on our 100 acre farm with Alfie and will continue where much missed Ace left off, helping us teach residents and service users about horse care and horsemanship skills.”

A spokesperson for Blue Acre Horse Rescue said,   “We are a small charity but extremely dedicated to helping as many horses and ponies as we can.  We are always looking for suitable homes for them, once they have been rehabilitated, so we can then help more animals in need. Often people looking to rehome one of our animals want to be able to ride it so these can be rehomed quite quickly;  it really helps when someone wants a companion horse or pony, as these can end up spending some years with us.  We are so pleased Morocha can live out the rest of her years at another charity where she will be able to give joy to many and will be rightly loved and cherished.”

If you would like to help enrich life for the residents at Duckyls Farm they have a Wishlist  https://linktr.ee/diagramaamazonwishlist which includes a full size head collar, a 6’3” mediumweight turnout rug for Morocha.
