Celebrating Twenty Years of Support for Grassroots Causes

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Kent Community Foundation financially supporting charities and community groups across Kent and Medway

One community group which has been supported by Kent Community Foundation for the last twenty years is the Pegasus Playscheme in Dover which offers children, including those who have rare and complex disabilities a fun-packed three-week summer playscheme.

Recently Pegasus received £27,000 from the 20th Anniversary Fund, to be used for core funding over the next three years, a donation of £500 from the Ivy & Jane Charitable Trust Fund and this month the playscheme was  awarded £2,000 to help cover the income shortfall that the pandemic has caused.

Josephine McCartney, Chief Executive, Kent Community Foundation, said “Pegasus Playscheme plays an important part in the Dover community, providing an annual three-week summer play-scheme for disabled children and young people. The Playscheme allows the disabled children to take part in activities they might  otherwise be excluded from and gives volunteers and service users the chance to take part in fun pursuits, while helping them to learn and develop vital life skills. Pegasus is just one of the  3500 community groups and charities that Kent Community Foundation has supported over the last twenty years with grants totalling £44 million.  We are committed to offering financial support to organisations we already know, as well as grassroots charities and community groups who may not have applied to us in the past so, please do get in touch.”

Sue Clark MBE, Chairperson and Fundraiser, Pegasus Playscheme, said, “We just can’t thank Kent Community Foundation enough for the valuable support over the last twenty years but this past twelve months you have given us a real lifeline. We are now on the road  for three weeks with the Playscheme, and then the fundraising starts for 2022. It takes me the full year to secure enough funding to do it all again next year. If anyone could help, we would love to hear from you.”
