Communigrow Spreads Festive Cheer

This Christmas, food education charity Communigrow based in East Malling, is hosting eco-friendly wreath making workshops and a winter family celebration.

This December Communigrow is holding wreath making events  and a winter family celebration to spread some festive cheer and raise money to support the educational activities they provide for young people and vulnerable groups.

At the Communigrow wreath making workshops you will learn how to make an eco-friendly wreath and  at the winter family celebration activities will include creating an evergreen tea light table decoration, decorating gingerbread biscuits, making tasty treats for garden birds, and enjoying a hot drink around an open fire.

Communigrow was one of thirteen charities across Kent and Medway that received three years core funding support from Kent Community Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Fund.

Josephine McCartney, Chief Executive, Kent Community Foundation, said. “We were delighted to help Communigrow with three years core funding as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations. This financial support  has given the thirteen organisations we supported some much-needed breathing space after the pandemic brought most fundraising opportunities to a halt. Events such as these are a great way to raise awareness of what Communigrow does and we hope they are very successful.”

Helen Turner, Communigrow, said, “The grant has given us a real boost in moving forward over the next three years to develop our work with young people, families and the local community. It is very reassuring that organisations like Kent Community Foundation has such confidence in our charity that they are prepared to support us in this way. This grant has enabled us to develop new opportunities and continue supporting young people facing disadvantage in their lives and to reach out to others in our community. Everyone is welcome at our events this December, but we know they will be very popular so booking in advance is essential.”

About the Kent Community Foundation 20th Anniversary Fund

Kent Community Foundation established the fund earlier this year as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, to provide core funding to one charitable organisation from each of the county’s districts. The thirteen groups whose applications were successful received £12,000 in May 2021, and will receive a second grant of £9,600 in April 2022 and a third of £6,000 in April 2023, to be used towards their core costs, including utilities, rent, and staffing costs.

About Kent Community Foundation

Grant-maker Kent Community Foundation has been finding, funding, and supporting some of the smallest voluntary organisations in the county for twenty years. In this time, it has distributed over £45 million to support thousands of small charities and deserving causes where a modest sum of money can make a significant impact.

They are part of a UK wide accredited network of forty-seven Community Foundations who are committed to improving the lives of local people and communities, particularly the most vulnerable, isolated, and disadvantaged by matching those who want to help, with those who need the help.

Responsible for more than eighty philanthropic funds, Kent Community Foundation is unrivalled in its knowledge of local causes and assists individuals, families, and businesses, who want to help, to establish and administer their own charitable funds.
