Pottery Throw Down Fan Enrols in College Course

The charity Diagrama Foundation is delighted that Janice, one of the adults they support, has gained a place on a pottery course at the Bexley Learning and Enterprise College.

Janice a huge fan of Channel 4’s Pottery Throw Down, who is supported by the charity Diagrama Foundation to live semi independently in Bromley, is delighted to have enrolled in a pottery course at the Bexley Learning and Enterprise College.

The Great Pottery Throw Down invites Britain’s best home potters to compete to be crowned best at the wheel and Janice really enjoys seeing what they create each week.

Beth Maina, Registered Manager, Diagrama Supported Living said, “Janice has really benefited from individual art therapy and we have been exploring different ideas for learning and activities. As well as enjoying the creative side of the course it will also develop her confidence and help her to learn new skills and meet new people.”

Janice and her Diagrama support team looked through the prospectus for Bexley Learning and Enterprise College and not surprisingly Janice chose pottery as an option. On the course Janice will learn many techniques including how to use the wheel and the kiln.

Beth Maina continued, “Janice can be very anxious and at times finds communication really difficult and she can get stuck in repetitive activities, but she has a compassion for others,  is very humorous and displays great creativity.

“Janice took part in an initial phone call with the college and she was really happy to have an interview. On the day of her interview, she was a little anxious but very excited and we were delighted to witness how brilliant she was during the interview. After the interview we went on a tour of college and Janice was given a college pass which she is very proud of.”

The course starts on Monday 22 April and Janice is very excited to get started and said,   “I am looking forward to making a clay pot and clay fruit.”

Janice would appreciate some items to get the most out of her course.  They have been added to the charity’s Wish list –www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2S402F215J2OP?ref_=list_d_wl_lfu_nav_3
