Diagrama Foundation is Proud to Support New Family Social’s LGBTQ+ Week

Diagrama Foundation is proud to support, New Family Social’s LGBTQ+ Week launching on 2 March, to celebrate diverse families and encourage more same-sex couples to explore fostering and adoption. ‘Now’s the time’, this year’s theme, encourages LGBTQ+ potential applicants to start their journey now.

Every day, around 100 children enter the UK care system and the Diagrama fostering and adoption team works tirelessly to find safe, loving homes for those children who have waited the longest.

“Eric and I always dreamed of having children but never really thought it was a possibility and assumed that the closest we would get was being uncles or godparents,” says Jason, who adopted a son with his partner Eric through Diagrama Adoption. “Like any family we have our ups and downs, but the rewards of parenthood are priceless. We feel blessed that we have such an incredible son with whom we share so much joy, love and laughter. He is the centre of our universe, and we love being able to support and guide him as he grows and witness the progress he makes. He has made our lives complete.”

Kate Patel, Head of Adoption and Fostering at Diagrama, said: “Approximately 20%, that’s 1 in 5 of all adoptions in England are by same-sex couples. At Diagrama, we welcome applications from same-sex couples and want to reassure them that love, commitment, and stability are what matter most to children in need of a home. There are no barriers to forming a family because you are in a same sex relationship.”

Diagrama Foundation which operates a not-for-profit fostering agency and a voluntary adoption agency, runs regular online information sessions for anyone interested in fostering or adoption, to share the process, the opportunity to meet adopters and fosterers and answer questions.

Kate Patel added: “We know there are myths and misconceptions about same-sex adoption or fostering, but the evidence shows children thrive in loving, supportive homes, whatever the parents’ gender or sexual orientation. New Family Social’s LGBTQ+ Week is the perfect time to highlight the opportunities to foster or adopt and celebrate the families who are already making a difference.”

Diagrama Adoption and Fostering welcome applications regardless of age, faith, sexuality, ethnicity or whether you are single or a couple. Their free online information sessions are a great first step to explore the possibilities of creating a family through adoption or fostering.”
